LiveAuthorities 0.1 User Script

LiveAuthorities v 0.1 User Script generates a convenient, automated Table of Authorities palette allowing legal researchers to fetch primary authorities cited within the contents of online legal opinions, memoranda and journal articles.

Once installed, the LiveAuthorities v 0.1 Table of Authorities control palette automatically appears in the upper rightmost corner of the window whenever valid legal citations are found among page contents.

[+] [x]
AUTHORITIES:

The palette initially appears in collapsed view.

It can be expanded (and re-collapsed) by selecting on the [+] link appearing second from right at the top of the control.

The full palette displays a hyperlinked table including all cases, statutes and regulations found in the current page.

To view the primary documents, just select on the highlighted citations included in the table.

The palette can be dismissed altogether by selecting the [x] link appearing first from right.

Hyperlink Cites Command

Note: As of the current build (0.1.1) the Hyperlink Cites Command has been termporarilly removed. It will, pending a bug fix, likely be restored in version 0.1.2

New Note: as result of the recent hole found in the last version of Greasemonkey (0.3.3), User Script Command functionality has been temporarilly removed from 0.3.5 rendering this a non-issue.

LiveAuthorities DHTML can be applied directly to inline plain text citations by running the optional Hyperlink Cites command from the Firefox Tools: User Script Commands sub-menu

Note that, in the case of a large or heavilly cited document, the command might take a moment to execute.

Linked Law Libraries

The LiveAuthorities v 0.1 basic build currently links to three public legal resources via an itermediate cite retrieval tool at techlawreporter.com:

Law students and others with dedicated access to proprietary services can also select Westlaw and Lexis specific builds that generate links to these paid services (as well as providing full state and federal coverage)
