(Daily Mi: 10.5) Continental breakfast at the Ramada with Choo Choo and the P Man. Packed up and then mosied over to the hostel to find Piper. Choo Choo's knee is extremely swollen with fluid. The church pastor offered to take her to a doctor but she declined. Pator Karen is great. She has done a fair amount of hiking locally and has hiked around Slide Mtn in the Catskills (one of my favorite areas). Gizmo was at the hostel as well, and he and I took a box cutter to Choo Choo's pack to try and lighten her load (took off external pockets etc.). We probably eliminated all of 8 oz, but it was great fun to wantonly slice up someone else's gear. Left town with Piper and Choo Choo around 1:30 pm. Crossed the bridge on I-80 over the Delaware into NJ at about 2 pm! It was a long climb up out of the Gap, but not too steep. Pretty glacial pond up top. Potato Man caught up while we were taking a break there. Very boney and PA-like trail around and just past the pond, but much of the hike crosses open grassy ridgeline with occasional views of the upper Delaware River 1000' below. The Mohican Outdoors Center is an Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) facility with a lodge, cabins and tenting area. I split a cabin with the Potato Man and Choo Choo. Piper pitched nearby.
