(Daily Mi: 14.0) Crossed into PA today: 1 state down, Mason-Dixon Line and all that. Very pretty day and a generally nice hike except for one section through a seemingly endless rock garden. It was comical. There were blazes but no trail. Just a giant pile of boulder sized rocks. Had a cold soda at Penn-Mar State park just before the MD/PA border. Absolutely calorie crashed during the last two miles of the hike. Basically ate the contents of my pack when I arrived at camp. Started dreaming of cheeseburgers and pizza. Guess I need to resupply.

Piper was in again as were Choo Choo, Commander and Scout. Commander is "extending" a 2001 hike from Springer to Harpers Ferry. Scout is joining him for the first week of the hike. Choo Choo set out from Harpers Ferry on a flip-flop hike. She is hiking to Katahdin and will then return to Harpers Ferry for the hike to Springer. She is tiny and has an enormous external frame pack.

At about 9:30 pm Rocky and Thor came into camp by lamplight announcing a pizza delivery. Turned out they had hitched into town out of Penn-Mar and, unable to get a ride back, had ordered a pizza to the park in order to ride with the delivery man. Unwilling to dispose of the pizza (and already having eaten a large), they carried the pie 4.5 miles from the park to the shelter. I gratefully sucked down three slices.
