J1b. ABOUT NEWSLOGS
Newslogs are topical, on-line journals collecting references to articles, essays, white papers and primary materials located across the web.
What is important is that a newslog is a "log". Content is routinely and frequently updated. Entries are displayed in a common and predictable format. |
|
As entries accrue over time, the site's author-editor develops a personal and/or expert knowledge base to be shared with friends and the web at large.
Newslogs have been among the hot phenomena in personal and orginizational web sites in the past few years for the simple reason that the newslog format provides surfers with an incentive to make return and repeated visits to a site in pursuit of "appointment" and/or "destination" content.
Newslogs are inherently more interesting than a static site no matter how cleverly arranged or animation filled.
On the other hand, newslogs can be a good deal more labor intensive than a static site, pariticularly if maintained by hand and/or conventional <html> editors
With traditional methods, providing coherent access to archive materials presents additional complexity and tedium.
SophiaKnows provides a simple, intuitive toolset automating the more burdensome tasks in this process as well a friendly, powerful interface for designing and formatting the display of the log contents.
