J1a. ABOUT WEBLOGS

Weblogs (or Blogs) are dynamic, on-line journals.

A weblog can be a personal journal or on-line diary.

A weblog can be literary and/or topical journal, collecting essays, articles as well as links to related and topical material across the web.

What is important is that a weblog is a "log".

Content is routinely and frequently updated.

Entries are displayed in a common and predictable format.

As entries accrue over time, the site's author-editor develops a personal and/or expert knowledge base to be shared with friends and/or the web at large.

Weblogs have been among the hot phenomena in personal and orginizational web sites in the past few years for the simple reason that the weblog format provides surfers with an incentive to make return and repeated visits to a site in pursuit of "appointment" and/or "destination" content.

Weblogs are inherently more interesting than a static site no matter how cleverly arranged or animation filled.

On the other hand, weblogs can be a good deal more labor intensive than a static site, pariticularly if maintained by hand and/or conventional <html> editors

With traditional methods, providing coherent access to archive materials presents additional complexity and tedium.

SophiaKnows provides a simple intuitive toolset automating the more burdensome tasks in this process as well a friendly, powerful interface for designing and formatting the display of the log contents.

SK2.0 WEBLOG TEMPLATES

Weblog Elements

Weblogs are most typically layed out like a newspaper column (wich they most closely resemble). The SK2.0 standard weblog template includes the following preset fields:

1. Title Sample Headline
2. DateMar 19 2003
3. DescriptionThis entry is just sample text that demonstrates the formatting of the item body or description element.
4. Link<bookmark>

The standard fields and contents are briefly described below. For more details (including legal content select here):

1. Title: This field holds the title or headline for each item in your weblog.

2. Description: This field holds the main content for each item. In the case of a weblog, this field will hold the body of each entry. In the case of a news log or accumulator this field will hold a description or summary of the remote page or article.

3. Date: This field holds the date on which the item was first posted.

4. Link: This field holds the permanent link or address for each item. This allows readers to link directly to an individual entry in the log as well as providing a unique item identifier if you choose to syndicate your log.

When configuring their SK2.0 site, users can choose to include or omit any of the standard fields, however a weblog must contain at least two of the following elements : Title, Date or Description.
