The REI Travel Sack is an inexspensive 55° + sleeping bag with a standard polyesther fill and taffeta nylon shell.

Primarilly intended for fixed camps, the Travel Sack can also make an excellent, light-weight option on a hot summer night in the woods.

A hybrid mummy/rectagular shape, Travel Sack features inlude a full side zipper, draw string enclosed foot and full hood.

The Joys of a Summer Weight Bag

For the longest time I owned a single sleeping bag that met the requirements of the worst conditions I was likely to encounter in a given year. For the most part, and most recently, this meant a synthetic filled 0° bag with a full storm hood, draft tube and shoulder yoke.

My current worst conditions model has kept me alive through more than one -28°F night and even continued function credibly after a full on dousing in a lake (don't ask).

That said, it also weighs in at better than four pounds and completely fills the bottom of a 6500 cubic inch expidition pack (which has its own issues)

In anticipation of an Appalachian Trail thru-hike, I bought a high-performance 20° down bag in the spring of 2002.
